VESTURE: THE BODYCON DRESS

Hey Tribe,

I am doing something a bit different today. When I started this blog, one of the things I wanted to include was Style. I took these pictures a long time ago, but I have had a hard time putting them up.

Here’s why… I do not think I look good in bodycon anything simply because I feel like I am too skinny for it and it does not suit my body type at all. However, I bought this dress from a friend and I have only worn it as a top once. I had to think of ways to wear it and feel at peace while wearing it.

Also, the fact that the quality of the pictures isn’t great made me consider scrapping it altogether and honestly, I also had the fear that no one would read the post.

However, one of my major goals for this new year (it was my birthday two days ago ๐Ÿ˜Š) is to ‘Do it Afraid!’. I know this might not seem like a big deal to you, but having my pictures ‘out there’s scares the heck out of me, so here I am… Conquering my fears, as this post sat in my drafts for seven months!!

I doubt that this would be a usual aspect of le blog, but time will tell.

I wore this dress in three ways because some of us have limited wardrobe choices and its pretty nice to have different ways to wear one item. Any style post here would definitely be based on this premise.ย

I hope you find at least one that suits you, and do let me know other ways to style this.

The key word for these looks is simplicity, and that’s what I go for mostly. ย The outfits have no extra to them but could be jazzed up a bit if you want to. Add a brooch, a belt, a neck piece or a jacket.

AS A SKIRT

I am still sort of obsessed with the off-shoulder trend, so I just paired the dress to serve as bottoms with this matching top (Remember when these tops were all the rage last year?) Plus, these shoes are for my sister but they are just so comfortable and we bought it for about 1500 Naira in Balogun Market (absolute steal)!

AS A TOP (AGAIN)

As you can tell from the photos, I love the flowiness of this skirt. The colour of the dress blends suitably with it, and the length of the skirt combined with the lack of sleeves gives the perfect balance of body exposure. A casual jacket or a blazer could be worn so it could be more appropriate for certain places.

I was actually laughing.

Why are my feet sticking out so much? ๐Ÿ˜‚

AS A DRESS (OF COURSE)

Ankara is the best thing to happen to fashion, in my opinion. I love it! I just paired this dress with an ankara jacket which is just the right length and sneakers, because comfort is key.

Peep our A/C stand.

I obviously just took these pictures at home. I am not yet brave enough to be taking pictures upandan (and I don’t think I ever will be, but who knows?)ย

ย So here’s to Desire, for facing and conquering her fears one at a time!

Which look is your favourite? What’s your best fabric to wear? Mine is definitely Ankara, because the versatility is amazing!ย

Thank you so much for reading!

  1. Yaaay!! The afro movement!! Ok. I have never been a fan of body con dresses. Even the one I had, I gave it out; but I loved the way you paired it the first time. It’s lovely. You should teach me how to pose. I’m very terrible at it. Maybe, maybe if I get beaten by a bodycon insect, I’d try it out. Those shoes are lovely! Nothing like balogun market boo!!

  2. Glad you decided to be brave, and you look really good. My fav is wearing it as a dress but you do look good in everything. You should try more style post ๐Ÿ˜
