Interlude || The Year That Was

This has been sitting in my drafts since November 2020. It’s 3:45am as I schedule this- and it feels really good to do this. It’s progress for me, and I’m celebrating every little win.

I hope you understand what you’re about to read.

It’s taken me over 6 months to get to this point.

I have not been able to write anything for this long. Struggling with my mind like there’s someone else there has been exhausting- to say the least.

I can truly say I have taken steps forward and some backward. It’s been a tough year for everyone and I know that I’d be told not to be tough on myself.

What do you write about the sort of year that takes you by absolute surprise?

One that you can say you didn’t see coming?

How do you come back from somewhere you don’t even know?

How the hell can I still call myself a writer when I have not written in 6 months?

Omo.

I know that we are all winging it in this life, but it is still very tough, you know.

My mental space has been filled with confusion and I have been even lazier than usual. Even this post has been in the making for a long time. I’d write for a few seconds and take breaks for days.

In fact, I’m currently typing this in my favourite spot while waiting for my shawarma to be ready.

With all that has happened this year, this is a breakthrough for me. Just the ability to pen up to 100 words from my heart is a win!! I’m taking it as that.

I’m happy you’re here to witness this win.

I still hope to have a year recap, along with more skincare, books and lifestyle posts.

You can also follow me on Instagram. I’m back there now and seriously considering opening a new one as a more ‘private’ / photo dump space, but we’ll see.

How has your year been?

Let me clarify that I won’t be doing any end-of-2020 recap here. It does feel like I am doing myself a disservice because I know that the mind forgets so I’ll attempt to do one, for posterity sake.

It might be a video stored on iCloud so I can show my children in 15 years. Who knows?

What I do know is that 2021 will be amazing for us. I can literally feel it in my bones, and that’s the mindset I’m sticking with. I’m going to be consistent, happy and smash goals, God leading me.

If you read all of this… WOW. I’m literally in awe of you. From my heart’s depths, thank you so much.

My word for 2021 is Consistency. What’s yours?
