3 Affordable Moisturizers For Oily Skin That Cost Less Than 5000 Naira

Moisturizers are a core part of your skincare routine, and I am all for affordable options. They help to hydrate, nourish, replenish, smoothen and plump the skin, keeping it healthier and firmer. They could also aid in sealing the moisture present in your skin. No matter what skincare products you use, if you don’t seal with a moisturizer, it’s basically a waste of time.

These moisturizers do not ‘cure’ acne but form part of a routine that helps with managing acne or hyperpigmentation. Please stop looking for miracle products, and build a consistent routine.

People frequently think that people with oily, acne-prone skin don’t need moisturizers, and that is simply not true. In fact, if they don’t use moisturizers, the skin could over-produce its own oil (called sebum) which could clog the pores on the skin and lead to breakouts. This is what happens with many people… but they don’t know.

For oily skin, what you want is a lightweight moisturizer that won’t clog your pores.

In the basic (sort of compulsory) skincare routine, moisturizers don’t have to cost much. I have tried some affordable ones, so you don’t have to. Here are some of my favourite fragrance-free options that cost less than 4000 Naira (approximately 6 USD):

Simple Hydrating Light Moisturizer

If you know me, you know I am a big fan of the Simple brand because of how simple their formulation is. They contain basic ingredients that help maintain your skin without any drastic changes.

The Simple Hydrating Light Moisturizer contains hydrating and soothing ingredients like glycerin, water, vitamin E, bisabolol, among others. It is lightweight and sinks into the skin beautifully without feeling heavy and ideally, should not clog your pores. The bottle is also made from 100% recycled plastic (we stan an environmentally-conscious brand)

Creighton’s Pure Blends Light Moisturizer

The most affordable of the bunch, this lotion is truly light. It has a slightly minty, refreshing feel (stark opposite to the Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Oil-Free Moisturizer) in addition to great ingredients.

Without saying too much, this is the best moisturizer I have used at this price. If you are on a lean budget, you can go for this.

Simple Hydrating Gel Cream

Another Simple pick! Although the brand says it is suitable for dry skin, I find this to be very good for oily skin. It is a gel-based moisturizer that leaves a matte finish while still hydrating your skin.

It contains hyaluronic acid, glycerin, dimethicone, caprylic triglycerides which help hydrate and seal in moisture.

Other great oily skin friendly moisturizers (all below 10,000 Naira) :

  • Isntree Green Tea Emulsion
  • The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + Hyaluronic Acid
  • Elf Holy Hydration Lotion

There are a ton of options of moisturizers out there and these are some that are still effective but easy on your pocket. Always remember that skincare is not a one-size-fits-all , so understand that your skin won’t be the same as others.
